Quick update

September 29th, 2009 — 1:25pm

It’s been a while since I made an update to this blog - it’s been a good summer, the weather is finally cooling off and it feels nice to walk early in the morning before dawn.  I love the fall!   Let me share some news with you.

I’ve been using an iPhone for a couple of months now, and I must say that I am hooked.  The device has an incredibly intuitive user interface, the ability to be online all the time is great, and the collection of apps is terrific.  And then there is the camera - and a few apps that allow me to do some editing directly on the phone, as well as upload them to the internet.  I can’t say enough about how convenient it is to have this little camera with me all the time.   I have been doing random shooting to keep my creative juices flowing - mostly abstract “found” images - just a lot of fun!

I did a couple of headshot sessions with Derrick and Prianna.  I am pleased with the results, see samples below.  I used only natural ambient light.   Headshots are deceptively simple, but it’s not so easy to achieve great results.  I also did a series at an antique car show and a few images at the Fort Worth Modern  Museum of Art.  A great place to photograph!

The human body

September 8th, 2009 — 2:53pm

Marshana has an absolutely perfect figure, slender and tall.  We decided to get together to do some nudes of her.  My initial idea was to do a version of Velazquez’s Venus of the Mirror, which we ended up doing.  But I am much happier with the other shots I created using a backlight approach on a white background.  The images have a more commercial appeal without being unartistic.  I am posting two here from the series.

Lifestyle portraits of Prianna

September 8th, 2009 — 2:43pm

In August I photographed a beautiful model, Prianna Staley.  Prianna and I spent a couple of hours at the Legacy Shops a hot Sunday afternoon.  The goal was to create a few pretty lifestyle portraits for her portfolio and my stock library. We met at the Cafe Express and I made some portraits there, right by the light West facing windows there.  I like the blurred background in the first image.  We then sneaked into the Angelika Theater and went to a waiting area on the second floor, where I shot the second image.  Finally we walked over to the hotel across the pond, and shot both inside and outside.  The image I posted here was taken in open shade outside the hotel.

Classy and grunge

September 8th, 2009 — 2:33pm

Yesterday I took my kids to the Eisenberg Plano Indoor Skateboard Ring, an old warehouse in East Plano that now houses a dark and cool skateboard ring.  My son Pablo recently got a board and he wants to practice.  The place has some cool, vibrant grafitti, and it would make a good location for some grunge shots.  I decided to photograph the place and keep it on file.  But when I got home, and almost accidentally I found one of the Hollywood glamour images I created in the studio back in Apr’08 - so I decided to merge the two images to see what would happen.  Here beloe is the result - I like the clash between the elegant, classy, artsy model, and the grunge feel of the place.

What do you think?
